The Polish Librarians’ Association (Stowarzyszenie Bibliotekarzy Polskich – SBP) is the largest non profit public benefit organization of professional and scientific nature, operating in Poland for more than 90 years. It brings together all those, whose professional or research activity is focused on librarianship and scientific information.

The Polish Librarians’ Association comprises about 8500 members representing different types of libraries from all over Poland (public, academic, research, special, school, pedagogical, private, etc.). As a non-elite organization, it is concerned with issues related to all of Polish librarianship.

The PLA’ vision is to create a partnership-based space for the libraries’ development in the information society.
The PLA’s mission is to work for the librarianship development, build the identity of librarian profession, integrate the librarians’ community and create a positive image of libraries and the librarian profession. more
 
On April 18th 2012 the press conference concerning the World Book and Copyright Day approaching took place in the University of Warsaw Library, attended by Grażyna Szarszewska and Jarosław Dudek, representatives of the Polish Book Chamber, PLA President Elżbieta Stefańczyk, Agnieszka Wiercińska-Krużewska – lawyer from the WKB Wierciński, Kwieciński, Baehr law firm, and Tadeusz Górny from the Polish Association of Book Publishers. more
On March 29-30, 2012 PLA Presidium’s and Management Board’s meetings took place, chaired by Elżbieta Stefańczyk, concerning discussion and acceptance of the reports of the PLA activities on 2011, and of the plan for 2012. more
The group of Romanian librarians visited Polish libraries in February 2012. Their goals were to get knowledge about support the libraries receive from regional (province) public libraries and the Polish Librarians’ Association, about cooperation with non-governmental organizations, as well as partnerships and coalitions developed for the benefit of local and regional libraries. more
Workshop on periodic evaluation of “The Polish Librarians’ Association Strategy for the Years 2010-2021”, organized by the PLA Management Board and the Information Society Development Foundation, took place on March 1st and 2nd, 2012 in the Polish-American Freedom Foundation in Warsaw. more
The PLA School and Pedagogic Libraries’ Section, PLA the Electronic Pedagogic Library Portal, the “Uczę Nowocześnie” Journal, and the Warmia and Mazury Karol Wojtyła Pedagogic Library in Elbląg kindly invite to the “Mobile Education in the 21th Century” conference, which will take place on March 16th, 2012 in the Conference Hall of the Pedagogic Library in Elbląg, Świętego Ducha 25 street, 11.00-15.00. more
