Fundraising in libraries – or how to gain and keep a sponsor. Relation from the workshops

Added: 18.12.2013

The workshop, organized on November 20th in the Book Institute site in Warsaw, aimed at presentation of fundraising activity and benefits of cooperation with a fundraiser. The participants found out good and bad practices in searching for additional resources for regular library activity or selected, planned actions.

The first part of the workshop concerned a practice of fundraising, referring to the campaign “Imagination works miracles – charm up a magic library with us”, and was run by Ms Małgorzata Woźniak, a fundraiser and employer of the PLA Management Board office, certified by the European Fundraising Association. She discussed particularly the idea of fundraising, tools and techniques of making contacts with sponsors, and effective campaign within an organization.

The other part, run by Ms Małgorzata Szmigielska, Chief Editor of the sbp.pl portal, referred to a website as a tool of gaining benefits. Four most important finance resources were discussed – patronages, advertisers, grants, and bilateral agreements.

The last part was the presentation of Ms Sylwia Czub-Kiełczewska from the MAK+ Strategy and Development Department, the Book Institute. She presented her own experiences in building strong relations as a benefactor, and discusses such important questions like planning fundraising, selection of a fundraiser for a planned action, presentation for a sponsor or detailed benefits to be offered.
